Juried Literary and Visual Arts Exhibition
Call for Entries
Purpose
To present an exhibition of excellent, original literary works and visual works in five categories: poetry, short stories, photography, two-dimensional art, and three-dimensional art.
Eligibility
The competition is open to all living artists/authors, professional and amateur. Those interested are invited to submit up to three (3) examples per category. Entries must not have been shown in any DVAC event in the last two years. All work must be offered for sale. For literary works, signed printed copies are to be made available to potential buyers. The artist/author is responsible for sales tax.
Specifications
All artwork must be your own original work. The Diamond Valley Arts Council and The City of Hemet are not liable for any copyright, trademark or other proprietary infringements.
Entry Procedure
All work will be submitted as digital files, JPEG format on blank CD or DVD for visual categories media and *.rtf., *.wps., *.doc, *.docx, or *.wpd. No other formats will be accepted. Submissions for each category must be on a separate disk, you may submit up to three works per category. The computer disk(s) must be submitted with the following information.
- Category
- Name, mailing address, telephone number and email address (if available)
of the artist/author. - Title of the work
- Dimension/length of the artwork/literature
- Media used
- CD’s or DVD’s will not be returned. Please keep your originals.
Submission Requirements
Categories (Literary)
Poetry
Fixed or free form, five (5) line minimum or 36 line maximum. For each entry, include a cover page (see Cover Page requirements below). Poem must relate to the quote “Something mighty and sublime, leave behind to conquer time.” by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe.
Short Stories
2,500 words maximum. All entries must be typewritten using 12 pt Times New Roman font. For each entry include a cover page (see Cover Page requirements below). On each entry, put only the title of the work on the first page. Include the title and page number in the upper right hand cover of each additional page. Please put no other identification on your entry.
Keep your originals. Send only copies. Entries will not be returned.
Cover Page
Must include the following information:
- Name
- Address
- Phone number
- E-mail address
- Title of entry
- Category (poetry or short story)
- Length (not to exceed 2,500 words for short stories or 36 lines for poetry)
- Selling price of copies
- Include following statement: “Copyright [Year] [Your name]. All rights
reserved.
No part of this work may be reproduced or copied in any form without written
permission from the author or publisher.”
Categories (Visual)
Photography
Framed and matted, with wire hanging system. Must be signed on the front and clearly identified (on the reverse side) with the artist name, address, phone number, e-mail address, title, and price using Part A of the Visual Art Submission Form.
2-Dimensional Artwork
Any medium. Must have wire-hanging system. Must be signed on the front and clearly identified (on the reverse side) with the artist name, address, e-mail address, title and price using Part A of the Visual Art Submission Form. It is not a requirement, but we do suggest the use of Plexiglas for lightness and safety in the framing of your artwork.
3-Dimensional Artwork
Any medium. Work must be signed and clearly identified (on the back or bottom) with the name of the artist. Any objects requiring special display devices, must be provided by the artist.
Accepted Works
Staging/Retrieval
Signed copies of works in the two literary categories and works in the three visual categories must be delivered to the staging area on Friday, October 17th, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Late entries will not be accepted.

The Diamond Valley Arts Council reserves the right to
refuse to display any work that does not accurately reflect the quality
of workmanship depicted in submitted document or image, and/or is not adequately
prepared for display.
Works are to be picked up on Sunday, October 19th between 4:30 PM and 6:00
p.m.
Liability
Work will be handled with utmost care. Neither The Diamond Valley Arts Council nor The City of Hemet or any agent will be responsible for damage or loss to any work of art submitted.
Entry Fees
DVAC Members: $5.00 per work
Non-Members: $10.00 per work
Students: waived
Fees may be paid by check or money order

Commission
There will be a 20% commission on any sales made during the exhibition.
